Tips For Purchasing Bras After Breast Augmentation Surgery

Since breast augmentation gives your body a whole new shape, you will need to replace your old bras with new ones. Shopping for new bras after breast augmentation can be fun and exciting, but it is important to slow down and take your time. The last thing you want to do is spend your hard-earned money on a number of bras that may not end up fitting properly in the long run. Your bras needs immediately after surgery will vary from the bras that you will wear several months down the road. If you have breast augmentation surgery scheduled, use the following tips to purchase new bras.

Focus on Support First

During the first weeks of recovery after breast augmentation, don't expect to be wearing cute push-up bras or fancy lace bras. Immediately after surgery, you will need to focus on wearing bras that provide support for your breasts as they heal from surgery. Your surgeon will most likely recommend that you wear very supportive sports bras for several weeks. You will want to avoid all underwire bras in the weeks after breast augmentation surgery, as the underwire can displace the implants during the recovery process and cause complications.

Buy One or Two Bras at a Time

After your surgeon clears you to begin wearing regular bras, it is in your best interest to only buy one or two bras at a time for the first several months. Immediately after breast augmentation surgery, your breasts will be swollen, and it can take a few months for the swelling to completely subside and for your implants to settle into place. This means that your breast size and shape can, and most likely will, change over the first couple of months. Buying one or two bras at a time will help ensure that you don't spend a lot of money only to get stuck with a bunch of bras that no longer fit properly when your breasts settle to the size they will remain permanently.

Schedule a Bra Fitting

When you scheduled your breast augmentation surgery, you most likely told your surgeon what cup size you would like your breasts to be. However, the end result can vary slightly, so it is in your best interest to schedule a bra fitting at a lingerie store or department store several months after surgery when your breasts have completely settled. A bra fitting with a professional will let you know what your correct bra size is so you can begin trying on different styles and brands of bras until you find ones that have the perfect combination of fit and comfort.
